Epilogue: Home Safe

Miami, Florida

July 19, 2001

Dear Family and Friends,

Just to let you know that I arrived home safely on Tuesday afternoon as scheduled. The Swissair flights were uneventful.

My route took me from Thessalonica to Zurich for a one-hour stopover. I was able to resist the duty free shops. Bally shoes had a half price sale, but nothing in my size!

My route of flight from Zurich took me over Derby, Lubec, Burlington, Framingham, Wellesley, Medfield (almost), West Roxbury, Scituate, Setauket, Wantagh, Spencertown (almost), Flushing, Paramus, Philadelphia, Ft. Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood, Hallandale, Aventura, S. Miami, and Miami. Took ten hours.

The time passed quickly on the plane. By chance I sat next to a lovely Israeli-born woman and her two American-born teenagers. They live in Boca Raton. She is in a computer related business. We had a great chat.

Got to go. Just picked up one of those US Postal Service boxes and it is filled with my mail. Lots of bills and credit card solicitations and threats to cancel my magazine subscriptions. Also a very personal letter from Barbara Bush. Thanks, Alice, for your card.

I will leave you with the words of the Oracle at Delphi. She wasn't home when I visited last week. But her words are worth pondering: "Know thyself." "Nothing in excess." Except of course, summer holidays.

Cheers,

Jan
